About the role
Are you an experienced bookkeeper or payroll professional who wants your skills to make a meaningful difference? Schools Ministry Group (SMG) is seeking a Bookkeeping & Payroll Officer to join our Support Centre team. This is a permanent part-time role (4 days per week) supporting a values-driven organisation that serves young people and school communities across South Australia.
About SMG
SMG provides pastoral care, chaplaincy, Christian education, and wellbeing services in partnership with school communities. We employ over 220 Pastoral Care Workers in SA government schools and are an approved provider under the National Student Wellbeing Program. Key Responsibilities
Assist with end-to-end payroll processing and payroll queries Ensure accuracy of timesheets, pay rates, and employee records Process supplier invoices, payments, and debtor follow-up Reconcile bank accounts and financial transactions Prepare payroll and financial reports Support continuous improvement of finance and payroll processes
About You
You are organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. You bring a professional, service-minded approach and value integrity, confidentiality, and accuracy.
You will ideally have:
Experience in payroll processing and bookkeeping (Cert IV or higher is desirable)
Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
Experience in BAS preparation and ATO compliance obligations Knowledge of payroll legislation (PAYG, superannuation, awards)
Experience in a not-for-profit or community organisation (desirable)
Experience with accounting or payroll software systems
